Ecoblox and Rimac Technology Partner on Automotive-Grade Modular Data Center Power

Dubai-based modular data center builder Ecoblox has signed a Joint Development Agreement with Rimac Technology to integrate the Croatian firm’s battery modules and power electronics into Ecoblox’s modular data center (MDC) architecture. The first unit is scheduled for completion in November at Rimac’s campus in Kerestinec, Croatia, marking the first deployment of Rimac’s UNI battery modules in data center infrastructure.

The partnership represents a cross-industry transfer of automotive energy-storage technology to high-density AI compute environments, with implications for backup power architecture, grid independence, and modular deployment timelines.

Technical Integration: UNI Modules and BMS in MDC Architecture

Under the terms of the Joint Development Agreement, Rimac Technology will supply its UNI battery modules and associated power electronics, while Ecoblox will contribute its AI infrastructure stack, MDC mechanical and electrical design, and hardware/software system integration. The resulting product is positioned as a high-density modular data center capable of supporting Nvidia and AMD GPU workloads.

Central to the integration is Rimac’s battery management system (BMS), which Ecoblox will use for real-time monitoring and control of the modular unit. The BMS is intended to provide visibility into battery state-of-charge, thermal conditions, and discharge performance, allowing operators to manage backup power cycles without manual intervention.

Ecoblox offers a product range spanning rack-level systems to 20- and 40-foot modular containers, as well as custom module designs. The company states that its systems can be deployed in less than eight months, a timeline that addresses the long lead times typically associated with traditional build-to-suit data center construction.

The UNI battery modules were originally developed and industrialized for automotive applications, with additional use cases in energy storage, marine, off-highway, commercial, and industrial sectors. The Kerestinec deployment will be the first instance of these modules being installed within data center infrastructure.

Power Resilience and Grid Constraints

The companies frame the collaboration as a response to power availability constraints facing AI infrastructure operators. High-density AI clusters draw significant and often unpredictable power, creating challenges for facilities located in areas with limited grid capacity or lengthy interconnection queues.

By embedding automotive-grade battery storage directly into the modular data center envelope, Ecoblox aims to provide longer continuous backup power for critical computing hardware. The integration could reduce dependence on traditional
